Coconut oil is produced through a process called fractionation. It is used to separate different types of fats found in some oils. It is used to create new products. When fractionating coconut oil, the substance is heated above its melting point. It is then cooled and the oil is separated from the liquid. This process can take several hours.
How are the coconuts grown and collected?
Coconuts grow year-round in small groups of 5 to 12 coconuts. A coconut palm produces an average of 100-120 coconuts per year. The coconuts are often harvested every 45 days. When a coconut is fully ripe, it automatically falls off the coconut palm after about 12 months and can be picked up.
