How is Unroasted Refined Argan Oil Made?
Argan oil is made from the kernels of the fruits that grow on argan trees. After the nuts have been collected, the nuts are dried to remove the fleshy part. Or it is removed mechanically to speed up the process before starting the extraction process.
Then the argan nut in the argan fruit is opened to collect the argan grains, which is all done by hand. For culinary argan oil, the seeds are first roasted, with cosmetic argan oil this is not done to prevent a nutty smell.
The kernels are then ground and pressed to a brown puree, leaving a pure unfiltered argan oil. The oil is then filtered, refined and deodorized to make it suitable for cosmetic purposes.

How are the argan fruits grown and collected?
There are 2 traditional ways to harvest the argan oil.
1. The argan nuts are picked up when they fall from the tree in late July and early August or are thrown from the trees with stones.
2. They pick up the argan nuts from the ground that the goats spit out after eating the fleshy fruit part.
